Synopsys Secures China’s Approval to Acquire Ansys for $35 Billion

Published: 7.22.2025

Synopsys, a leading company in chip design software, has officially received approval from China to buy Ansys for $35 billion and is expected to be completed by early 2026.

Two Powerful Tools, Now Under One Roof

Synopsys makes the software used by engineers to design and test microchips—tiny but powerful components found in everything from smartphones to cars. Ansys, on the other hand, creates software that simulates how real-world forces (like heat, pressure, or vibration) will affect those chips and the systems they’re in.

By combining both, Synopsys will be able to offer a complete toolset: from designing a chip to testing how it performs in the real world—all before building a physical product. This saves time, money, and reduces the chances of failure.

China’s approval was especially important because both companies do business there—and because chip design tools are considered sensitive technology. Many were unsure if China would allow the deal due to global tensions, but it did, showing that even China wants access to the kind of tools this merger will produce.

How Will This Impact the Industry?

This deal will change how companies design technology, especially in industries like:

  • Semiconductors: Chipmakers can now design and simulate everything faster and with more accuracy.

  • Automotive: Car companies can build smarter, safer, and more energy-efficient vehicles with better digital testing tools.

  • Aerospace and Defense: Engineers can test their designs digitally under extreme conditions before ever building anything.

What’s Next?

The new Synopsys-Ansys platform is expected to launch in early 2026. Engineers and product developers will now have one place to design, test, and simulate their ideas from start to finish—making development faster, more reliable, and more advanced.

This move also puts pressure on other companies like Cadence and Siemens, who will need to step up their own offerings to keep up.

By bringing together design and simulation under one roof, Synopsys and Ansys are setting a new standard for how modern technology is built—from the chips inside our devices to the systems that power cars, planes, and beyond.
