Intel and LG Innotek Launch AI-Powered Smart Factory in Korea
Published: 9.9.2025
Intel and LG Innotek is partnering toward the future of manufacturing by collaborating on an AI-powered smart factory at LG Innotek’s Gumi plant in Korea.
The project integrates Intel’s Core and Xeon processors, Arc GPUs, and the OpenVINO toolkit to power advanced AI-based vision inspection systems.

Initially deployed in mobile camera module production lines, the AI solution has already demonstrated up to 99.99% defect-detection accuracy during testing.
Building on this success, LG Innotek plans to expand the technology to its Gumi-4 facility, which produces FC-BGA substrates, and then extend adoption across overseas manufacturing sites.
The partnership highlights how AI is transforming electronics manufacturing, not only by enhancing quality assurance but also by lowering costs.
LG Innotek reports 3–4 times better cost efficiency using Intel Arc compared to previous hardware solutions, while leveraging Intel Xeon with AMX for AI training and considering the Gaudi accelerator line for future pre-training workloads.
Beyond defect detection, Intel and LG Innotek are exploring applications in predictive maintenance and broader factory automation, pushing toward fully unmanned, smart manufacturing facilities.
