Rajasthan Advances India’s First Large-Scale Solar + Battery Storage Project
Published: 10.29.2025
The northern Indian state of Rajasthan is moving forward with the country’s first large-scale solar park integrated with utility-scale battery storage.
Located in the Bikaner district, the Pugal Solar Park, developed by the Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Ltd, will feature 2,450 MW of solar capacity paired with a 5,000 MWh battery energy storage system.

The project spans roughly 4,780 hectares of government-owned land, with supporting infrastructure, including access roads, drainage systems, and evacuation substations being prepared in coordination with the state transmission utility, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam.
Once operational, the park is expected to generate more than 1,000 jobs and offset over 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative highlights Rajasthan’s growing role as a leader in integrating large-scale renewable power with storage, a crucial step toward grid stability and 24/7 clean power delivery.
With its infrastructure and regulatory groundwork underway, the Pugal Solar Park is progressing beyond initial planning and is poised to set a precedent for future solar + storage projects across India.
